If You or a Friend has a Problem with Lust...

by Freddie Coile

Thanks so much for your honesty about your problem with lust.  It means that a person looks at and desires something that he can’t rightfully have, usually sexually. Whether this is homo or hetero, lust is wrong.  Facing the truth is half the battle won (I John 1:8).

It’s HUGE that you cut this problem off now, in your youth.  Lust is killing the families of men who never face the truth in their youth, and their sin accumulates until they have an addiction to pictures and are completely twisted up in the knots and deception of sin. Here are some helps:

• Remember who you are, God’s child!  You belong in the family of God and have important things to do.  Temptation is from your enemy, who wants to hurt you.  Disappoint him.  Win!

“But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. - (I Timothy 6:11)

• Romans 6:1 is a great help.  Memorize it.  Quote it when the pressure comes.  It will help you to think of Christ.

• Just get out of the web.  Don’t go online.  Or block bad sites.  It’s easy if that’s what you really want.

When you feel tempted, run!

“Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.”  -1Corinthians 6:18

I developed my baseball skills by throwing a ball into a brick wall and fielding the returns over and over at times when staying in the house was too tempting.  Find something else to do!

Lust may seem fun, but there’s nothing on pleasure island that’s better than what Jesus will give you when you “stay in the boat” in fellowship with Him.  Stay in the Light and you can overcome lust!
